I am working on the genealogy of my husband's family. My husband's great-grandfather, Thomas Henry Follett, was born in Bishop's Lydeard in 1859. His parents were Richard Follett and Marianne (Mary Ann) Newton. Beyond that, I haven't been able to verify definite information. Is there anyone in Bishop's Lydeard who might be willing to help me trace these ancestors?

I was very disappointed to learn recently that due to the short sightedness of a complaint concerning the use of the churchyard for tea shop tables, they have now been removed. I went to the tea shop before this and sat in the church grounds and thought how nice it was to be able to sit and look at the church and what a lovely use of part of the pretty grounds without encroaching on the churchyard itself. It is a lovely attraction for passing visitors as well as locals such as myself. I would hope that this can be reviewed and reinstated as without it there is no other seating area so nice to sit and have tea.i hope the council will review this??

We have eaten at newly re-opened  'The Lethbridge' three times during the past month. Service friendly and quick. Food and real ales first class, and cost reasonable. Will use again when in the area. The new management appear to be very professional, and know how to run a successful pub.

Is there a possibility that there will be a Bishops Lydeard Fete and Flower Show in 2012? Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the last one and I would love to go to something like this this year! Please, please, please.

this thread really helps me bring back old memories and this is something that my mother and i share stories with all the time. just feels so good to remember those things back in the days because things were really all so different for our family back then. i do hope that these stories will always be passed on to the next generation so that the stories lives on and may never be forgotten.
